Tenon Chair

Regular price $2,800

Open/made-to-order

The Tenon Chair is postured for dining and showcases the simplicity of traditional joinery. Visible tenons reveal the structure that gives the chair its strength and namesake. The seat is carved by hand through a process of grinding, travishing, card-scraping, and sanding, resulting with a subtle and uniquely shaped seat. The backrest is steam bent to its final arc before its tenons are cut to snugly fit into the back-posts' mortises. The three spindles are turned by hand on the lathe and provide additional support to the chair's rigid structure.

Each component of this chair carries a unique detail or process that isn't always apparently visible in the piece's finished form, but contributes a long lifespan and years of usage by its owner.

Curator's Note

"This chair could stand alone in a room and hold its own as a sculpture. The hand carved seat is stunning. This piece works beautifully as a standalone side chair or a set."
